Joe Bryant is dead. The father of the also deceased basketball star Kobe Bryant was 69 years old.
Joe Bryant (1954-2024), the father of the late basketball icon Kobe Bryant (1978-2020), has died. This is reported by several US sources. “La Salle University Athletics mourns the loss of men’s basketball legend Joe ‘Jellybean’ Bryant, who passed away Monday morning.” Joe Bryant was one of the star players of the La Salle Explorers in the mid-1970s.

“I am heartbroken over the sudden loss of my uncle,” said John Cox, assistant coach of the La Salle men’s basketball team and Bryant’s nephew. “He was a basketball icon in the city of Philadelphia and someone I admired growing up.” Like his son Kobe, Joe Bryant also played in the NBA professional league and later held various coaching roles – including at La Salle University.
The death of Bryant. The cause of death is unknown, but current Explorers head coach Fran Dunphy told the newspaper that Bryant recently suffered a severe stroke.

Bryant’s son Kobe, who died in early 2020, is considered one of the greatest NBA icons. The basketball star died along with his then 13-year-old daughter Gianna and other passengers in a helicopter crash in California.
Gianna’s mother and Bryant’s widow Vanessa (42) has now expressed her condolences on Instagram following the death of her father-in-law. “We hoped that things would turn out differently,” she said. Even though she only spent a little time with him, he was always “sweet and kind” in her presence. “Kobe loved him very much,” she continued. She is praying for the family.
