Stormzy (30) and Maya Jama (29) were long considered one of the most popular couples in the British entertainment industry. When they got back together last year after a long separation, their fans were thrilled. Now, however, the rapper and the TV presenter have announced their final separation.
Stormzy and Maya Jama fell in love ten years ago
On Wednesday, the two shared a joint statement. “Hey guys, we’re laughing as we write this because we never thought we’d be that couple that publicly announced their separation,” it reads. “But in the interest of providing clarity and giving us both the space we need to navigate this new phase of our lives, we think it’s probably a good idea.”
“We fell head over heels in love in 2014, split up in 2019 and then spent five years apart. In August 2023, we decided to give it one last try. We spent the past year trying our best to make it work,” the two sum up their relationship. “However, we recently decided to end it.”

When they met at the age of 20 and 21, they were both still at the beginning of their careers, and since then they have both developed together and individually. “We tried and it didn’t work, and that’s okay.” They both still think very highly of each other and are grateful for the time they spent together, they say. The two also want to remain friends.
Stormzy is one of the most successful rappers in Great Britain. All three of his studio albums reached number one in the British album charts, he has been nominated for a Brit Award eight times and won three awards, and in 2017 he also received an MTV Europe Music Award for “Best Worldwide Act”.
Maya Jama has been in front of the camera for various British TV formats since 2014 and worked as a radio presenter until 2020. Since 2022, she has hosted the British edition of the dating show “Love Island” as well as the international spin-off “Love Island Games”. After splitting up with Stormzy in 2019, Jama is said to have been in a relationship with NBA player Ben Simmons (27) and even engaged.
