Sheikha Mahra bin Mohammed Al Maktoum came up with a rather unconventional way to end her marriage. The daughter of Dubai’s ruler used Instagram – and deleted all photos of them together.
It is a very modern relationship ending that seems to be taking place both privately and virtually. Sheikha Mahra bin Mohammed Al Maktoum recently surprised everyone with a clear statement on Instagram. She addressed words to her still-husband, Sheikh Mana Al Maktoum.
“Dear husband, since you are busy with other companions, I hereby declare our divorce. I divorce you. I divorce you and I divorce you. Take care. Your ex-wife,” wrote the 30-year-old. She tells him three times what she plans to do.

Photos of her husband and snapshots of their everyday life together are no longer on her profile. A clear cut. It was only at the end of May last year that the couple announced that they had celebrated the “Katb Al-Kitaab” – the official signing of the marriage contract. In October last year, the good news followed: the newlyweds were expecting a baby. The Sheikha also used Instagram to announce the birth in May this year. The newborn girl was given the name Mahra, just like her mother.
The little family’s happiness apparently did not last long. In the comments under her separation post on Instagram, the daughter of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, received a lot of support.
“I find it encouraging when a woman recognizes her worth and stands up for herself with confidence,” said one Instagram user. “Stay strong princess. Your father raised you well and you are the daughter of a king. Always keep a cool head and no matter how difficult it gets, your people will love you,” said another.
Still others speculate how a divorce might take place and what provisions the couple might have set out in their marriage contract.
