Richard Lugner: His life was briefly in danger

Richard Lugner’s life was apparently in danger for a brief moment last week. He had to undergo emergency heart surgery in Vienna.

The concern about his health continues: Richard Lugner (91) recently had to undergo heart surgery. According to reports, the Austrian construction entrepreneur had to undergo emergency surgery at Vienna University Hospital AKH last week due to a ruptured heart valve.

Life-threatening situation before emergency surgery

“On Thursday I was at the premiere of ‘My Fair Lady’ at the Lake Festival in Mörbisch. On Friday morning I was taken to the AKH because the tear in my heart valve had gotten bigger,” Lugner is quoted as saying. It had to be operated on immediately because it was already life-threatening.

“But I was in the best hands,” said the 91-year-old, who recently married for the sixth time. The Vienna University Hospital has a department specializing in heart valves. His heart valve was stabilized using a clip method via the vein. On Tuesday (July 16), Lugner was allowed to leave the hospital, according to “Bild”.

On June 1, the building contractor, known by the nickname “Mortar”, made headlines with his sixth wedding. He married his new wife Simone “Bienchen” Reinländer (42), who had previously worked as a manager in a hardware store, in Vienna. The two had already been engaged for a short time in October 2021. They celebrated their love comeback at Easter 2024.
