Scarlett Johansson: Clear criticism of OpenAI boss

Actress Scarlett Johansson has been arguing with OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman since May. Now she is taunting against AI technologies.

Is the dispute between Scarlett Johansson (39) and Sam Altman (39) entering a new round? In May, the actress and the co-founder of OpenAI made headlines because the company allegedly used Johansson’s voice without permission in a version of ChatGPT. In one, she once again addressed the dispute and her aversion to artificial intelligence (AI). Deepfake technologies are “a dark wormhole that you can never climb out of again.”

AI is developing “faster than our fragile human ego can process it, and the effects are everywhere.” The technology is coming at humanity like a wave around 300 meters high. When asked if she thought Altman would make a good Marvel villain, Johansson replied: “I think so – maybe with a robotic arm.”

AI violates Johansson’s core values

With the new version of ChatGPT, users soon noticed that the “Sky” voice option was very similar to the Hollywood star’s voice. Scarlett Johansson, who lends her voice to an AI assistant in the film “Her” (2013), explained that she was contacted by Altman in 2023 and declined to provide her voice for ChatGPT. When she then heard the voice used, she was “shocked, outraged and in disbelief,” she said in May.

“I also felt it would be strange for my children. I try to be considerate of them,” she explained to the New York Times. Using her voice contradicts Johansson’s core values.

OpenAI denied any connection between “Sky” and Scarlett Johansson back in May. The voice belongs to “another professional actress,” but the name was not mentioned. After Johansson’s complaint, Altman said it no longer wanted to make the voice option available “out of respect.”
