It is the annual highlight of social life in Monaco: Society figures from all over Europe travel to the small principality for the Red Cross Ball. Prince Albert II and his wife Charlène dressed in the colours of the Red Cross to suit the occasion. Charlène wore an elegant white dress by Louis Vuitton and added a splash of colour with her bright red lips. Her husband contrasted his white jacket with a red bow tie.
The Monaco Red Cross was founded in 1948. The first Red Cross Ball was held in the same year and quickly developed into one of the largest charity events in the world – thanks in part to the celebrity status of actress Grace Kelly, who married Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 1956 and, as Grace Patricia, ensured that the principality received international attention. Today, her son Prince Albert is the President of the Monaco Red Cross and Charlene is Vice President.
