A few years ago, actor Armie Hammer (“Call Me by Your Name”, 37) seemed to be well on his way to climbing the Hollywood Olympus. But then serious allegations of abuse against the American became public. He lost a number of roles, or even resigned from them himself, and in 2021 he went to a rehab clinic for six months. But Hammer has now denied previous rumors that “Iron Man” star Robert Downey Jr. (59) had paid for this treatment.

Robert Downey Jr.’s past addiction problems
Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr. has had serious addiction problems himself. In 1996, police in Los Angeles stopped him for speeding. Heroin and cocaine, as well as an unloaded pistol, were found in his car. After he failed a court-ordered drug test the following year, he spent four months behind bars for the first time. In 1999, Downey Jr. was sentenced to another three-year prison term for similar offenses, but ultimately only served 15 months of that, and was caught again with cocaine and Valium shortly after his release.
However, the star got back on track and fought his way back into the limelight with films such as “Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang” from 2005 or David Fincher’s (61) serial killer thriller “Zodiac” before “Iron Man” director Jon Favreau (57) gave him the role of his life as Tony Stark.
When Piers Morgan asked what the best advice Downey Jr. had given him was, he replied: “Sit down, shut up, everything will be fine.”
