Brendan Fraser has played many roles. He won an Oscar for his tragic role in “The Whale”. Now he will play a historical figure in a film about a world event.
Oscar winner Brendan Fraser takes on the role of the future US President Dwight D. Eisenhower – when he was the supreme commander of the Allied forces in Western Europe during World War II. The 55-year-old will play “Pressure” in the film, as the production companies Studiocanal and Working Title announced. The film revolves around the events leading up to D-Day.
In the 72 hours before, everything will go according to plan, the announcement says – only the weather remains an unpredictable factor. Britain’s chief meteorologist James Stagg (Andrew Scott) has to prepare the momentous weather forecast that will determine the timing of the operation. The final decision for the operation rests with Commander-in-Chief Eisenhower.
On June 6, 1944, Allied soldiers landed on the beaches of Normandy. D-Day marked the beginning of the liberation of France and Western Europe from Nazi rule.
Anthony Maras (“Hotel Mumbai”) will direct the film. Filming is reportedly set to start in September in the UK. The screenplay is being written by director Maras and David Haig – it is based on Haig’s play of the same name.
Fraser (“The Mummy”) won the Oscar for Best Actor in 2023 for his leading role in Darren Aronofsky’s drama “The Whale.”
