People: Sandra Hüller christens civilian rescue cruiser

The actress has taken over the sponsorship of the aid organization Sea-Eye’s new ship. The cruiser will in future come to the aid of people in distress on the escape route in the Mediterranean.

Actress Sandra Hüller has christened a rescue ship that will help refugees in the Mediterranean in the future. The ceremony took place in the port of the Italian city of Ancona. “I wish this ship didn’t have to exist,” the 46-year-old was quoted as saying in a statement by the United4Rescue association.

Hüller (“Anatomy of a Case”), who comes from Suhl, had taken over the sponsorship of the almost 35-year-old cruiser “Sea-Eye 5”. “I wish the governments of Europe and the world would finally understand that migration will not stop if they allow people to die on the migration routes,” Hüller continued.

“It will stop when they take responsibility for the suffering of people who leave their homes, caused by the arrogance and ignorance of the rest of the world and politics.”

Another rescue ship is currently sailing in the Mediterranean for the private German aid organization Sea-Eye, based in Regensburg. The central Mediterranean is one of the most important routes for people from Africa who want to come to Europe.

“I wish this ship a peaceful sea and thank the crew for their unfortunately necessary work,” said Hüller. “May this ship and the people on board be blessed.”
