Angelina Jolie, Lady Gaga, Brad Pitt and George Clooney will attend the Venice Film Festival

Angelina Jolie, Lady Gaga, Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Nicole Kidman are part of the stars that will be present from August 28 to September 7 at the 81st Venice Film Festivalwhose programming was presented this Tuesday.

Twenty-one films will compete for the prestigious Golden Lion for Best Film, announced the artistic director of the Mostra, Alberto Barbera, during a presentation broadcast live on the internet.

Which films will be part of the Venice Film Festival?

Among the most anticipated films is “Joker: Folly of Two” of Todd Phillipsthe second installment of “Joker,” which will also star Joaquin Phoenix, this time accompanied by Lady Gaga.

The new feature film by the Spanish Pedro Almodovar, “Next room”filmed in English in New York and featuring Tilda Swinton, Julianne Moore and John Turturro in the cast, will also compete for the coveted award.

This edition of the Mostra will also mark the return of the Brazilian Walter Sallestwelve years after his last film, with “I’m still here” (“I’m Still Here”), based on a book that tells the true story of a woman who is searching for her husband, a congressman kidnapped by the Brazilian military during the dictatorship.

Another important event of the festival will be the presentation of “Maria”in which Angelina Jolie plays the famous singer Maria Callas during the last days of her life in Paris.

George Clooney and Brad Pitt will also raise passions on the Lido, but out of competition, with “Wolfs”of Jon Watts.

Australian star Nicole Kidman stars “Babygirl”an erotic thriller of Halina Reijn about a woman dissatisfied with her marital relations who embarks on a dangerous sadomasochistic relationship.

British Jude Law will headline the cast of “The order”from the Australian Justin Kurzelin which he plays an FBI agent immersed in the white supremacist circles of the 1980s.

The festival will also screen three French films, including “Jouer avec le feu”, the third work by sisters Delphine and Muriel Coulin, starring Vincent Lindon and Benjamin Voisin; and five Italian films in competition, including “Queer”, the latest film by Luca Guadagnino (“Call me by your name”), starring Daniel Craig.

Luis Ortega will present “The Jockey” at the Venice Film Festival

Argentine Luis Ortega, known for films such as “The Angel” (2018) and “Dromomaniacs” (2012), will premiere “The Jockey”with an all-star cast that includes Nahuel Perez Biscayartthe Spanish Ursula Corberothe Mexican Daniel Gimenez Cacho and the Chilean Mariana Di Girolamo.

The film tells the story of Remo Manfredi, an eccentric and self-destructive jockey whose talent begins to fade. Abril, a jockey and Remo’s partner, is pregnant and must decide between continuing with her pregnancy or continuing to race. Both compete for Sirena, a businessman obsessed with Remo. One day, Remo suffers an accident, disappears from the hospital and wanders the streets of the city without an identity. While Sirena wants him dead or alive, Abril tries to find him before it’s too late.
