According to reports, the Braunschweig native won the election on Monday (July 22) together with a German athlete. However, the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) will officially announce the election results at a press conference next Wednesday (July 24).

Did he prevail against Zverev and Reitz?

Dennis Schröder would have prevailed in the voting against strong competition in the form of tennis star Alexander Zverev (27) and sports shooter Christian Reitz (37). The captain of the basketball world champions would be the first German athlete with dark skin – and the second basketball player after Dirk Nowitzki (46) – in this role. Nowitzki held the position of German flag bearer at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Incidentally, Olympic dressage champion Jessica von Bredow-Werndl (38), judoka Anna-Maria Wagner (28) and professional football player Alexandra Popp (33) competed for the position of female flag bearer. It is not yet known which of them won.

The Summer Olympics in Paris start on Friday, July 26th and will run until Sunday, August 11th.
