People: Why Daniel Donskoy sings without a first name

Actor, director, Ukrainian, connoisseur of Jewish culture – Daniel Donskoy has many facets: “Recently, the most diverse identities have been projected onto me and into me.”

Actor Daniel Donskoy (“The Crown”) traditionally drops his first name in his music projects to create a dividing line. “I don’t lead a double life, of course I am both. Donskoy stands exclusively for my music, the name Daniel Donskoy already stands for so many other things,” the 34-year-old told the dpa. “Especially recently, the most diverse identities have been projected onto me and into me. Daniel Donskoy, the expert on the Israel-Palestine conflict, the sought-after interview partner for the Russia-Ukraine war, the mole, the Jew or the hot priest.”

Donskoy’s musical identity is still free of labels that people want to ascribe to him, said the actor. “My music is an expression of uncensored liveliness in contrast to a time full of death and war. “Sippin” was created in New York when I was on stage for the Holocaust drama “The Pianist” – an incredibly exhausting time that pushed me to my limits both mentally and physically. For Władysław Szpilman, music was his salvation and, as crazy as it sounds, my music saved me there too.”

“Sippin” is released this Friday and is the first single in a whole cycle: every five weeks a new single is released with a mixture of catchy pop and electronic music influences.
