Only a week ago and already ready for the museum: The House of History wants to make room for the hype surrounding Taylor Swift and has requested a very special town sign from Gelsenkirchen.
A “Swiftkirchen” sign that was erected in Gelsenkirchen on the occasion of the acclaimed concerts of pop singer Taylor Swift is going to the museum. It will be given a place in the collection of the Bonn House of History, the city announced. The foundation had asked Gelsenkirchen whether it could add one of the specially made signs to the collection after it had been used. Mayor Karin Welge was very happy to comply with this request, it was said.
The House of History of the Federal Republic of Germany collects objects of contemporary history and will thus also give the phenomenon of “Taylor Swift” a place. An original of the typical yellow town sign with a pink portrait of the megastar will be handed over to the collection director on Friday.
A city in a Swiftie state of emergency for days
Three concerts by the US singer attracted around 200,000 fans to the Ruhr city last week. At the start of her “The Eras Tour” in Germany, a “Swiftie” state of emergency prevailed, especially around the Veltins Arena in Schalke.
The city had even temporarily renamed itself in honor of the pop star, following the petition of a student and Swift fan from the Lower Rhine: around 30 “Swift churches” had already been installed in the city at the beginning of July. Many of them became popular selfie backgrounds.
