Former 007 actor George Lazenby is withdrawing from public life. He will also no longer give interviews, he explained on X.
George Lazenby (84) is ending his acting career and is retiring from public life. The former and one-time James Bond actor said: “From today on, I will no longer act or appear in public, give no more interviews or sign autographs.” This was not an easy decision.
George Lazenby: “Getting older is no fun”
It was fun, “but getting older is no fun,” the 84-year-old continues. Now he wants to spend more time with his family.
Lazenby played James Bond in the 1969 film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. He was the second 007 actor to follow Sean Connery (1930-2020). It was his first major role and his only appearance as James Bond. He later appeared in the films “The Man from Hong Kong” (1975) and “Gettysburg” (1993), among others.
Controversial appearance in Perth
Most recently, the actor had kept a low profile after causing an uproar at a public appearance in Perth, Australia in September 2022. Viewers had complained about sexist and homophobic statements made by Lazenby. He later apologized on the platform X, then known as Twitter.
