Jérôme Boateng was recently warned in court. The public prosecutor has now appealed against the verdict.
About a week after a verdict was passed in a trial against Jérôme Boateng (35) for intentional bodily harm, the public prosecutor’s office has filed an appeal. The football professional was given a conditional warning and was given a fine of 200,000 euros.
In response to a request from the news agency spot on news, the press office for criminal matters at the Munich Higher Regional Court confirmed “that the Munich I public prosecutor’s office has appealed against the verdict.” The reasons for the appeal will only be given after the verdict has been delivered, which is why no information can be provided at this time.
Boateng must not be guilty of anything
Boateng was convicted of intentional bodily harm by the Munich Regional Court on July 19. A former partner had accused the football world champion of attacking and insulting her on vacation in 2018. Boateng had denied the allegations. Last Friday, the court had given him a conditional fine of 200,000 euros.
However, Boateng does not have to pay this fine as long as he does not violate certain conditions. The judge explained in her verdict that the accusation of being a “notorious wife beater” against the football star had not been taken into account in the proceedings. The public prosecutor had previously demanded a sum of 1.2 million euros in the trial. It is possible that she viewed the warning as too lenient and therefore decided to appeal.
