Heinz Hoenig: Wife Annika does not give up hope

Heinz Hoenig’s wife does not give up hope that her husband will soon be able to return home. She thanks all supporters on his behalf.

His family has not given up hope that Heinz Hoenig will soon be able to come home again. As his wife Annika Kärsten-Hoenig revealed in a conversation with the, there is currently a small ray of hope in the health drama surrounding her husband, who has been in the intensive care unit of a Berlin clinic for almost 100 days: “Heinz is awake and fully oriented. He is currently being weaned off the ventilator,” said the 39-year-old, with whom the actor has two small children. This weaning is “a lengthy process and it is impossible to say how long it will take. And only then will the next steps follow, including the aorta operation.”

Hoenig had an operation on his esophagus in mid-May, and since then his breathing has been supported by a ventilator. He is currently waiting for a second heart operation, which can only take place when he is able to breathe on his own again. In order to be there for her husband, Kärsten-Hoenig has temporarily moved into a small apartment in Berlin with her two sons Juliano, 3, and Jianni, 1. The family actually lives in Blankenburg in Saxony-Anhalt.

Heinz Hoenig: Hope to be able to return home soon

She has developed a small ritual to keep the hope alive that she will “soon be back home in the Harz and be able to enjoy a little peace and quiet as a family”. This allows her to endure this “current state of emergency”. Every morning she sings her husband the song “Guten Tag, liebes Glück” by Lea and Max Raabe with a slightly different chorus: “‘Today is a good day to be happy. If happiness is at your doorstep, then let’ I put it in.’ And then ‘Good morning, my love, nice to see you. You and I will be going home soon.'”

Thanks to all supporters

She also wanted to thank “on behalf of Heinz” all supporters of the fundraising campaigns and the people “who volunteer for us,” said Kärsten-Hoenig. “Knowing that so many people are thinking of us gives us incredible strength and confidence.”

Since Hoenig does not have health insurance, he will ultimately have to pay all the bills resulting from his hospital stay himself. All costs incurred to date are listed transparently in the online fundraising campaign. At the moment, 177,275 euros have already been raised (as of July 25, 2024). The donation goal is 500,000 euros.
