The new voters could be the deciding factor in the crucial US presidential election this year. The designated candidate of the Democrats, Vice President Kamala Harris (59), is apparently aware of this. After TikTok was recently full of memes with a Harris reference, the 59-year-old joined the social media platform. And within a few hours, with great success.
Harris has quickly collected over a million followers and 1.6 million likes (as of July 26), but she doesn’t follow any other accounts. Her chosen slogan on her profile is “When we fight, we win.” , which has already been played around four million times, gives an insight into why she joined TikTok. According to her, she heard about the hype surrounding her there and “thought that that’s why I should come here myself.”
Certainly a clever move. After all, the app is particularly popular with Gen Z, a large number of potential first-time voters. But Donald Trump (78) has also had an official TikTok account for some time, and the numbers are even higher than those of Harris. His profile currently has 9.2 million followers and 23.1 million likes.
