The first competitive appearance of US gymnast Simone Biles (27) at the Olympic Games in Paris attracted a number of stars as fans. Hollywood star Tom Cruise, rapper Snoop Dogg and singers Lada Gaga and Ariana Grande, among others, gathered in the stands at the Bercy Arena to watch the four-time Olympic champion on the apparatus. Like the fans, they cheered Biles’ successful moves and were themselves popular photo subjects.
“Well, that’s really crazy. Snoop Dogg was in the house, I saw Ariana Grande too. They’ve seen me do gymnastics too, not everyone can say that, it’s a huge thing,” said German gymnast Helen Kevric on ZDF. Olympic debutant Kevric even left Biles behind on one apparatus. The 16-year-old German all-around champion received 14.600 points for her uneven bars routine, 0.167 points more than gymnastics icon Biles.
Teammate Sarah Voss was also happy: “Snoop Dogg and Tom Cruise watched me compete. Who can say all that? It’s pretty funny. That’s why it was a lot of fun.”
