Sinéad O’Connor: This is what the Irish singer really died of

After the early death of Sineád O’Connor, there was much speculation about what the singer might have died of. Now it has been confirmed.

On July 26, 2023, Sinéad O’Connor died at the age of only 56. One year later, the cause of death has now been revealed. As reported, citing the death certificate, the singer died from the effects of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma.

Sinéad O’Connor also suffered from a “mild lower respiratory infection”

The certificate specifically states that O’Connor’s death was due to “exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma together with a mild infection of the lower respiratory tract.” On July 24, the death of the “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer was officially registered by her ex-husband John Reynolds in Lambeth, London, according to the newspaper.

O’Connor was found “unresponsive” in an apartment in London on July 26, 2023. Her death was announced that evening. The daily newspaper “The Irish Times” was one of the first to report. “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Sinéad,” the family of the deceased said in a statement. The relatives and friends of the Irish singer, who became world famous in 1990 with the song “Nothing Compares 2 U,” are devastated and ask for privacy.

The death of her son hit her hard

In January, a spokesman for Southwark Coroner’s Court stated that the singer had died of natural causes. The investigation into the cause of death had therefore been discontinued. The Irish musician left behind three children. The fact that her son Shane took his own life in 2022 at the age of 17 was difficult for her. She canceled performances and underwent trauma and addiction treatment.
