In the new trailer, the audience is introduced to this universe and begins to learn a little more about what is to come. In 2004, 20 years after the events of the film, the release from prison of a young drug dealer puts Cidade de Deus back in turmoil. Residents find themselves caught between drug dealers, militias and public authorities, but the need to escape this cycle brings the community together around a project to confront the oppressor.

With some familiar faces returning to play memorable characters such as Buscapé, Berenice, Bradock, Cinthia, Barbantinho and Cabeção and new additions that promise to bring plenty of emotions to the plot, such as Jerusa, Lígia and Curió, City of God: The struggle continues arrives to show the life of this community in the early 2000s.
In the film, the popular saying “if he runs, the animal will catch him, if he stays, the animal will eat him” presented the City of God as an insoluble place. In the series, the community plagued by disputes between drug dealers, police and militiamen provides a perspective of collective resistance, focusing on the lives of its inhabitants.
