While Ed Sheeran and Bill Gates are dedicated to artistic gymnastics at the Olympics, one special duo is completely addicted to water polo.
The current Summer Olympics in Paris remain true to their reputation as a celebrity magnet. On Monday (29 July) well-known stars were again spotted in the stands alongside numerous top sporting performances. For example, Britain’s darling Ed Sheeran (33), who was down-to-earth as usual in a simple white T-shirt and black shorts. Sheeran, who had the honour of performing at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, watched the men’s artistic gymnastics final.
Meanwhile, multi-billionaire Bill Gates (68) arrived from the USA and, like Sheeran, turned out to be a gymnastics fan. For the Microsoft co-founder, this year’s Summer Olympics are also extremely interesting for personal reasons – his son-in-law Nayel Nassar (33), the husband of Gates’ eldest daughter Jennifer (28), is competing in show jumping for his home country Egypt.
Giants of tennis were present on and off the court on Monday. During Novak Djokovic’s (37) clear victory over Rafael Nadal (38), Serena Williams (42) was spotted in the stands. She won four gold medals herself in her unprecedented career – one in singles and three more alongside her sister Venus (44).
US director Spike Lee (67) was already cheering passionately in the stands at the weekend – wearing his usual eye-catching glasses and USA jersey, he was there at the basketball game between Serbia and the United States. He also made an appearance with a lot of meme potential at the US water polo game on Monday: together with US rapper Flavor Flav (65), he cheered on the team, who, despite the frenetic support, were ultimately defeated by the team from Spain.
The previous star appearances
Since the start of the Summer Olympics in Paris last Friday (July 26), it has always been worth taking a look at the audience. Superstar Tom Cruise (62), for example, cheered on the US swimmers’ freestyle relay on Saturday, and on Sunday he went on to the artistic gymnastics. Oscar winner Jessica Chastain (47), who brought her two children with her, and singer Ariana Grande (31) were also there, alongside her brother Frankie Grande (41) and “Wicked” co-star Cynthia Erivo (37).
Other stars spotted from all areas of the entertainment industry: “Vogue” boss Anna Wintour (74), director Baz Luhrmann (61), Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh (61) and celebrity couples John Legend (45) and Chrissy Teigen (38) as well as Nicole Kidman (57) and Keith Urban (56), who also brought their children Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret with them. However, ex-husband Cruise has not (yet) been met.
