According to the Hollywood Reporter portal and other media, Jimmy Kimmel has refused to participate in the gala after having hosted it on four occasions. This refusal is added to the refusal of John Mulaneya very popular US stage comedian who had received the offer from ABC. This leaves the ceremony, which will be held on March 2, without a date.

Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney’s reasons for refusing to host the Oscars
Kimmel has recently expressed a desire to slow down his work pace and have more space for his personal life. A decision that, as we now know, does not only include closing his Jimmy Kimmel Live! show for the summer.
As for John Mulaney, he has yet to host the Oscars, but he did win plaudits earlier this year for his work at the Governors Awards. A ceremony that is not televised, but which many consider a sort of audition for the Academy Awards.
However, and although he has stated on several occasions that he would not mind taking charge of the golden statuettes, Mulaney said “no” when the offer came to him. Something that THR attributes to the fact that he doesn’t like to prepare his schedule more than three months in advance.
Hosting the Oscars is also a huge undertaking, with months of meetings and rehearsals ahead. This could mean Mulaney would miss out on a lucrative stand-up tour, and who knows, perhaps new Netflix specials or voice acting roles.
So far, neither ABC nor the Academy have made any statements regarding these two rejections, which put the Oscars in an uncomfortable race against time in search of a replacement.
