400 km from Buenos Aires are Barker and Villa Cacique, two towns that belong to the Benito Juárez district and that have activities for all tastes.

Southwest of the province of Buenos Airesthe match of Benito Juarez It is a destination little explored by conventional tourism. Together with Olavarría, Azul, Lobería, Balcarce and the Barranca de los Lobos, in Mar del Plata, it forms part of the Tandilia mountain system, one of the oldest foothills on the continent, between 300 and 500 million years old.

Located 400 km from Buenos Aires, the Serrana Region launched its first tourist plan in 2002 as a way out of the closure of the Loma Negra Cement Plant, which Alfredo Fortabat installed there. Although the plant was later reopened, tourist activity did not stop and is gradually beginning to consolidate. So called because the ancient inhabitants extracted the dyes for their clothing from these same stones. It is a 35 km gravel route, ideal for mountain biking, that borders the mountain system and the quarry area. Another option is a 14 km night trek along the path that crosses the forest to Barker, returning to Villa Cacique.

El Cacique Bar and Museum

A place with an interesting collection of objects related to the history of Villa Cacique, where you can have a drink, eat a snack, play a game of pool or cards among the locals.

Argentine Sun Ranch

50 km from the urban area, after many years of recovery work, the Municipality of Benito Juárez added another tourist attraction with the inauguration of the Sol Argentino ranch, declared a National Historic Monument in 1990 for its importance as a center.

Raspberry Festival

It takes place between January 31 and February 2, and is the biggest event of the year. Three days to enjoy artisan fairs, the preparation of typical dishes, the election of the queen and live shows. The first raspberry plantation arose as a cooperative to generate work. Then small raspberry producers began to emerge who plant raspberries in their home plots, and give added value by making sweets, chocolates or filled alfajores.

How to get to Barker and Villa Cacique, Province of Buenos Aires

  • From Capital via RN 3 to Las Flores, RP 30 to Tandil (passing through Rauch), and RP 74 (junction with route 80) to Villa Cacique/Barker. It is 400 kilometers from Buenos Aires.
  • From Tandil by bus, three daily frequencies: 200 pesos to Barker and 210 to Villa Cacique.
