Mega-Event: Heavy rain and thunderstorms expected at Adele concert

Fans have been looking forward to pop singer Adele’s performance in Munich for months. But it could be a wet and stormy evening.

Don’t forget your rain jacket: The performance of British pop singer Adele, which fans have been eagerly awaiting, could be uncomfortable. “You can expect repeated showers in Munich until late in the evening, and thunderstorms are also likely,” a meteorologist from the German Weather Service told the German Press Agency. “The focus is on heavy rain, but hail and squalls are also not out of the question. And that will continue into the night on Saturday.”

Just a few kilometers to the north, the prospects are better, he explained. “The border is right near Munich, but Munich is still in the area.” So fans have to keep their fingers crossed, because the weather expert left a small back door open: “You could also be lucky and almost nothing will happen, but unfortunately the forecasts are not that accurate in this weather situation.”

The organizers of the ten concert evenings in the arena built especially for Adele, which has space for 73,000 spectators and is complemented by a kind of Adele theme park for entertainment before and after the performance, have certainly taken bad weather into account: A special tar was laid over 100,000 square meters, which is permeable to water and is intended to prevent visitors from standing in puddles.

But there is ultimately no cure for another type of weather: “Exposed areas such as the masts are of course dangerous when it comes to the risk of lightning,” warned the meteorologist. If the worst comes to the worst, the nearby exhibition halls will offer protection to the crowds, according to the plan.
