As the court confirms, Gil Ofarim has not yet paid the fine for his fabricated anti-Semitism story.
Contrary to a recent report, Gil Ofarim (41) has not yet paid the fine imposed by the Leipzig Regional Court for his fabricated story of anti-Semitism. “The Regional Court has (as of now) neither notifications nor receipts from the defense or the recipients of the fine that prove payment,” explained press spokesman Johann Jagenlauf when asked by the news agency spot on news.
“Well-informed circles” reported that Ofarim had paid the fine of 10,000 euros demanded by the court and that the proceedings should therefore be concluded. “The proceedings are not concluded,” Jagenlauf clarified. “Regardless of the fact that a formal decision by the chamber is required after the conditions have been met.”
Ofarim and the anti-Semitism scandal
In October 2021, Ofarim accused a hotel employee of anti-Semitism in a video shared on his social media channels. Among other things, Ofarim claimed in an Instagram video that the hotel employee had asked him to take off his Star of David. The hotel employee subsequently filed a complaint against Ofarim for defamation.
In the defamation trial in November, Ofarim made a surprising confession and admitted that he had only invented the anti-Semitism accusations. The case was dropped in return for a fine. The 10,000 euros will go to the Israelite Religious Community of Leipzig and to the association that supports the House of the Wannsee Conference.
