Annalena Baerbock: Foreign Minister cheers on athletes in Paris

Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock visited the Olympic Games in Paris and cheered on the German athletes.

Visit from German politics at the Olympic Games in Paris: Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (43) paid a visit to the German team yesterday (1 August). Baerbock, a former trampoline gymnast and a great sports enthusiast herself, visited the German House in the Stade Jean Bouin. On Friday she watched the German women’s hockey team reach the quarter-finals in their match against China live on site.

Baerbock for German Olympic bid

The German Foreign Minister sees the Olympic Games as an opportunity to bring the world together, as she explained. Baerbock therefore supports the German Olympic bid “wholeheartedly”. At the European Football Championship this summer, we saw that the Germans can be “great hosts”. But Annalena Baerbock wishes the German athletes at this year’s games the best of luck: “I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you and I’m proud of our Team D,” she said.

Baerbock is also using the trip to Paris for political talks, including with her French counterpart. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (54) has also been in Paris since Friday (2 August). There she signed the basic agreement for a German Olympic bid with the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).
