Pop star Justin Timberlake has pleaded not guilty to drunk driving charges in a US court. The 43-year-old, who has two performances in Antwerp, Belgium, on his world tour this weekend, joined the event via video and barely spoke, US media unanimously reported.
At the hearing in the affluent town of Sag Harbor, east of New York City, the court revoked Timberlake’s driving license for the state of New York until further notice, it was said. Judge Carl Irace also admonished Timberlake’s lawyer for previous statements to the press and threatened consequences.
A hearing next week, at which Timberlake is not expected to attend, will decide on a trial date.
Timberlake was arrested and charged with drunk driving in mid-June in Sag Harbor, about 150 kilometers east of the metropolis of New York.
According to a police report, he failed to stop at a stop sign, among other things. According to a court document, an officer said Timberlake’s breath smelled strongly of alcohol. The pop singer was unsteady on his feet.
