On TikTok, Simone Biles defended her husband Jonathan Owens. He had posed with one of her gold medals – much to the displeasure of Biles’ fans.

You don’t get to see an Olympic gold medal very often, let alone hang it around your neck. NFL football player Jonathan Owens probably thought the same thing and posed with one of the many gold medals belonging to his wife, gymnastics legend Simone Biles. A photo of Biles and Owens with the medal (which he posted on Instagram himself) also made the rounds on TikTok a few days ago, where user Kiera Breaugh picked it up and commented on it.

“Take off her medal,” Breaugh said in her TikTok video. “Was that you, Mr. Simone Biles, flying through the air yesterday? Was that you who spun like a top 30 times in the air and landed without stumbling? No,” Breaugh ranted. Owens was also dragged through the mud in the comments under her post. “I recognize her, that’s Simone Biles, but who is he?” joked one user. “So nice of her to pose with a fan,” commented another.

Simone Biles has since responded to Breaugh’s post. “The crazy thing is I put my medal on every single one of my family members and took pictures. So never make assumptions. You are all so f—-ing unhappy. Leave us alone,” commented the gymnastics legend.

But what is the hatred against Owens all about? Behind it is an interview that Owens gave in December last year. In it, he spoke about the beginnings of their relationship – and, in the eyes of Biles’ fans, was a little too self-confident. The two met on a dating app. “I didn’t know who she was at the time, but the first thing I saw was that she had a lot of followers online, so I thought, ‘She must be good,'” he said on the podcast “The Pivot.” He was later asked if he thought he was “the catch” in the relationship. “I always say we, the men, are the catch. I always say we are the catch,” he replied.

Simone Biles insinuated at the time that everything was fine between her and her husband. She recently made direct reference to it in the podcast “Call Her Daddy”. “He never said I wasn’t a good catch, he said he was a good catch. Because he is. I’ve never met a man like him,” she said. She also revealed how she experienced the shitstorm herself at the time. “I thought everything was fine and then I go on Twitter and everyone says: ‘Divorce this man. He’s mean!'” said Biles.

Apparently, Biles’ fans have not yet forgiven the athlete for the way he spoke about the gymnast.
