Heinz Hoenig recently reported from the hospital for the first time via video. His wife has now commented on the worried reactions.
Heinz Hoenig (72) was taken to a Berlin hospital in a critical condition at the beginning of May. He is currently awaiting life-saving heart surgery on his aorta. The actor recently spoke out personally from the hospital. In a video published by RTL, the 72-year-old says: “Hello, fans, dear colleagues. I would like to sincerely thank you for helping me so much.” He appears confident and grateful: “I am still in the hospital, everything is being repaired. And I have a good wife who cares. And two small children who I want to get back to. Everything will be fine. Thank you.” While he speaks into the camera, Hoenig is sitting in a hospital bed. The actor has lost a lot of weight, which has apparently led to worried reactions from fans, as his wife Annika Kärsten-Hoenig (39) has now revealed.
“Still the same old Heinz”
“We have received such wonderful messages, including about the video of Heinz and his statement,” she explains to the camera. “That was really very touching. I would like to thank each and every one of you again on his behalf.” Then she adds: Of course, “some of you may have been a little shocked that he looks the way he does now,” she says in her message. “Of course, when you consider that he was in bed for 14 weeks. That obviously means an enormous loss of substance, especially muscle mass,” explains Kärsten-Hoenig about her husband’s significantly thinner appearance. “Then people can look like Heinz after such a course of illness.”
The appearance is one thing, “what really counts are the inner values,” the 39-year-old stresses. Her husband is, deep down, “still the old Heinz. As we know him, as we love him.” And above all, her husband is an incredibly great fighter. “He only wants one thing: to get back on the stage of life. We will do everything we can to make sure that wish is granted.” Ultimately, that is what true love is all about, not just sticking together on good and beautiful days, but standing by each other in situations like these. “It doesn’t matter to me what my husband looks like. I love him the way he is.”
The couple has been married since 2019 and have two sons together, born in 2020 and 2022.
