Former DFB footballer David Odonkor has married his girlfriend Marilena. The couple decided on a civil ceremony.
For former professional footballer David Odonkor (40) and his partner Marilena, the wedding bells rang on Friday (2 August). The couple said “I do” in a free ceremony. The former national player and his wife celebrated together in a small circle.
David Odonkor: “Something very special”
Only their closest circle of 50 guests were present at their wedding. According to the report, they continued celebrating with them after the ceremony on a manor in the Osnabrück region. The civil wedding was apparently a long time ago. This year’s jungle camp participant and his wife posted a photo on Instagram at the end of May and mentioned in the text: “wesaidyes”.
“Our connection is something very special. Marilena is a wonderful woman,” Odonkor told “Bild am Sonntag” about his new wife. She was also overjoyed. “I am so infinitely grateful that we are now going on this journey together. David is an absolute heartfelt person,” she said happily. The couple also have big plans: next year they are planning to move from Düsseldorf to a house dating back to the 18th century. The couple are looking forward to moving from the big city to a rural area.
Was already married
It is the second marriage of the current football coach. He married his ex-wife Suzan Odonkor (37), with whom he had a daughter in 2008, in December 2006. In June 2021, David Odonkor announced his separation from the wedding officiant.
Odonkor played in 16 games for the DFB national team and scored one goal. After his football career, he trained to become a football coach. He has also appeared on TV shows such as “Ninja Warrior Germany” and “Joko & Klaas against ProSieben”. Most recently, he reached ninth place in the 17th season of the reality show “I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here!” this year.
