Ratings: Roland Kaiser brings good ratings to MDR

Roland Kaiser turned the banks of the Elbe in Dresden into a “Kaisermania” show stage in front of the baroque skyline of the old town four times. This is of interest to TV viewers across Germany.

Kaiser weather, Kaisermania, Kaiser ratings: This year’s broadcast of the last of the four “Kaisermania” concerts on the banks of the Elbe in Dresden has once again brought good ratings for MDR television. On average, 1.24 million people across Germany saw Roland Kaiser (72) sing on Saturday from 8:15 p.m. – and that despite strong competition on television, such as the ratings-boosting Olympic broadcasts.

Kaiser brought MDR “an average of 6.2 percent market share over hours,” industry service “DWDL.de” reported on Sunday. “Incidentally, “Kaisermania” also brought clearly above-average results among 14- to 49-year-olds. A 3.3 percent market share was generated here.”

In 2023, the “Kaisermania” broadcast was watched by almost 1.8 million people – at that time, SWR television also broadcast in parallel. This time, only MDR was involved again. In 2022, an average of around 1.8 million people also watched MDR television.

What does the audience rating describe?

On Saturday, after the live show from Dresden, MDR showed even more of the popular singer: “The 30 most beautiful hits from Roland Kaiser”. This also brought good ratings for the station.

Audience ratings describe the percentage of people who have tuned in to a program, measured against the total number of people watching television at that time. Lower reach in absolute terms (millions of viewers) can mean higher ratings today than in the past because, for example, fewer people overall choose to watch linear television in the evenings.

For 20 years, Roland Kaiser (“Santa Maria”, “Joana”, “To Love You”, “Why Didn’t You Say No?”) has been turning the banks of the Elbe in front of Dresden’s famous baroque backdrop into a pop party zone with his music in the summer. Tickets for the concerts are very popular: the total of 50,000 tickets were sold out “within five minutes”, the organizers announced in 2024.
