Dogs wearing life jackets glide over the waves of California, cheered on by their owners and fans. It’s a somewhat strange competition that’s not taking place for the first time.
Instead of fetching a stick, this dog competition is about surfing on four paws: Several four-legged friends demonstrated stamina and style at this year’s dog surfing competition on a Californian beach, as the organizer and several US media reported. Wearing life jackets and creative costumes, the animals zoomed across the waves on their boards.
They competed against each other in various disciplines – big dogs, small ones, some alone, others together with other four-legged friends. At the start they were given a push by their owners, it was said. The best dogs were awarded prizes while enthusiastic spectators watched on Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica.
According to the organizers, the competition will also raise donations, including for animal welfare.
