The legendary director David Lynch, 78, announced that he will probably retire from directing due to a health problem.

“I have had emphysema from smoking for so long and that is why I am confined to the house, whether I like it or not”“It would be very bad for me to get sick, even with a cold,” Lynch, 78, told Sight & Sound (via The Independent ).
The director added that “can only walk a short distance before” of running out of oxygen. Lynch said he is unlikely to direct a film again unless he can film it remotely. “I would do it remotely if I had to,” he said, but added, “I wouldn’t like it that much.”

Lynch’s last big project was Twin Peaks: The Return from Showtime in 2017. The renewal of the groundbreaking ABC series was well-received by critics and fans alike. The director’s last film was 2006’s Inland Empire.
The director has also seen renewed interest and appreciation for his famous 1984 adaptation of Dune of Frank Herbert thanks to the box office success of Dune Denis Villeneuve and Dune: Part Two.
