The “Smile” singer sometimes struggles with having left school at 15. In her podcast, she reveals what careers she might have pursued with a higher degree.
British singer Lily Allen (“Smile”) is struggling with her short time at school. “When people start talking about where they studied and stuff, I get into a kind of self-hatred spiral because I didn’t study,” said the 39-year-old in her podcast “Miss Me?”.
The singer explained that she left school at the age of 15 and “doesn’t even” have a General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE). The GCSE exam is equivalent to the Mittlere Reife in Germany. Allen explained: “I don’t have a single qualification and I’m ashamed of it.”
When asked by her co-host what a higher education degree would change for her today, Allen said she might have turned her back on music. “I might have thought, ‘I’m actually going to be a lawyer.'”
After suffering a stillbirth in 2010, she was determined to become a midwife, “because that was something that really interested me.” However, without a high school diploma, the path to this profession seemed too difficult for her.
