Snoop Dogg impresses at the Olympics in Paris – but apparently not for free. The rapper is said to be receiving millions for this.
As a torchbearer, a gymnastics fan, fencing or in full riding gear: Snoop Dogg (52) is seemingly everywhere at the Olympic Games in Paris. The rapper is a huge Olympic fan and has become the unofficial mascot of the games in recent weeks. But Snoop Dogg is not in Paris just for fun: The rapper is a correspondent for the US broadcaster NBC, which has the TV rights for the games.
This is how much Snoop Dogg is supposed to earn
The rapper, together with Olympic presenter Mike Tirico, commented on horse riding and fencing competitions for the station with his funny sayings and also travels around in many places as a reporter. He apparently makes a lot of money for this.
US businessman Henry McNamara made public the alleged amount that Snoop Dogg is said to earn during the Olympic Games. According to the report, Snoop receives a whopping half a million US dollars (around 450,000 euros) per day.
“I was sitting next to an NBC official at dinner and he told me that Snoop gets $500,000 a day plus expenses to promote the Olympics here,” writes McNamara. “From ‘Gin and Juice’ to a few million to be a celebrity at the Olympics – what a world.” For 16 days of the Olympics, that would be $8 million (around €7.9 million) alone – plus expenses.
Ratings for channels have risen massively
But it seems to be worth it for NBC: the channel’s ratings rose by a full 79 percent during the games in Paris compared to the games in Tokyo in 2021. It is not known whether this is solely due to Snoop Dogg. But the rapper is likely to appeal to at least a younger target group. Snoop Dogg already commented on the highlights of the dressage competition in Tokyo and reached “tens of millions of viewers,” according to an NBC press release.
The rapper is also being celebrated for his performances online. The top comment under McNamara’s X-post is: “He’s worth every cent.” In addition, Snoop Dogg has repeatedly gone viral with various appearances in recent weeks, most recently in full dressage gear alongside US TV chef Martha Stewart (83).
