Levon Hawke celebrates his directorial debut with his first play. “Picture Day” tells the story of a shared apartment for men with big secrets.
Actor Levon Hawke (22) continues to emulate his famous father Ethan Hawke (53) with his directorial debut in the theater. The son of the actor, screenwriter and director also wrote the screenplay for the play “Picture Day”.
Premiere is sold out
The work is the first full-length play by the Quick & Dirty Theatre Company from Brooklyn. In one and a half hours, it tells the story of a five-man flat share. In the course of the play, they explore their identity and sexuality and deal with “the complex aspects of modern male friendships”. The character of the “Picture Guy” causes the men to confront their greatest secrets.
According to Eventbrite, the premiere on September 20 is already sold out. Further performances of the play will take place at the Coffey Street Studio in Brooklyn’s Red Hook district until October 6.
Acting runs in the family
Levon Hawke gained his first directing experience with the drama “Wildcat”, in which his sister Maya Hawke (26) played the leading role. In addition, like his father and mother Uma Thurman (54), acting is in his blood. This year he appeared in front of the camera for the thriller “Blink Twice” by Zoë Kravitz (35) and the western “The Thicket”.
Maya Hawke also inherited her parents’ talent. The actress made a name for herself with her performance in “Stranger Things” and films such as Quentin Tarantino’s (61) “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (2019). In this year’s box office hit “Inside Out 2” she lent her voice to Doubt.
Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke have been separated for almost 20 years. They were married from 1998 to 2005.
