At the beginning of her career, Halsey suffered a miscarriage. However, she did not dare to cancel an important concert.
The US singer Halsey (29) has revealed a dramatic experience. In the “SHE MD” podcast published on August 6, the “Lucky” singer explained: “I had a miscarriage during a concert. The miscarriage began before the show.” However, canceling the performance was out of the question.
She said she was “in a really difficult position” that day because she was still at the very beginning of her career and had “a lot attached to the show.” “There was a corporate partner, there was a larger media partner, but more importantly for me, there were a thousand kids waiting all day to come on this show and see me.”
A lot of blood lost
That’s why she went through with the concert, even though she was feeling bad. She “just put on an adult diaper.” Luckily, the show was only scheduled for 45 minutes. After leaving the stage, she had to throw up in the parking lot. “I went to a hotel and felt sick all night. I remember sitting in the bathtub because I just didn’t know what to do with all the blood,” recalled the artist, whose birth name was Ashley Nicolette Frangipane. She bled for hours and could barely stand on her feet. Nevertheless, she boarded the plane for her next appointment the next morning.
The concert was also filmed. However, she can hardly bear the images. “It’s weird because when I look at it now, I see myself all white and sweating, and my voice is different.” Her voice was throaty. “I sound and look like a different person.”
Miscarriage triggered different feelings
Another difficult feeling for her was that she couldn’t talk to anyone about the miscarriage. “Because at the time I had only heard stories about miscarriages from happily married women. And they usually only talked about it after they had successfully become pregnant and carried the child to term.” She felt “just so alone” and also thought that at 20 she should be able to carry a baby to term. At the same time, she didn’t really want to be pregnant. “I was too busy with my career.”
The singer therefore had many “complex feelings” about the miscarriage, including relief, confusion, guilt and grief. The 29-year-old is now a proud mother. In July 2021, she had a son, Ender Ridley, with her then partner, screenwriter Alev Aydin (41). The couple’s separation was announced in April 2023.
