Brooke Shields is parting with one of her most famous pieces of clothing: her Calvin Klein jeans from 1980 are going under the hammer.
Brooke Shields (59) was already in front of the camera as a young teenager – as a model and actress. The controversial Calvin Klein advertising campaign from 1980 remains unforgettable; it not only boosted her career, but also gave Calvin Klein his star designer status. Now the actress is auctioning off the legendary pants from the campaign almost 45 years ago.
As part of the auction “From Bombshells to Blasters: An Auction You Can’t Refuse”, numerous memorabilia from famous films such as “Star Wars” and possessions of Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962), James Dean (1931-1955) and others will go under the hammer. In addition to her famous jeans, Brooke Shields is also auctioning off her personal script for the 1980 film “The Blue Lagoon” as well as a cheerleading sweater from her high school days.
Controversial advertising
When the Calvin Klein campaign was released in 1980, Brooke Shields was just 15 years old. The provocative slogan of the TV advert was therefore also criticized: “You want to know what’s between me and my Calvins? Nothing.” Despite their young age, Shields and Klein still stand behind the advert today: the campaign is “funny, innocent and yes, damn sexy”.
In 2023, Shields said her mother kept three of the original jeans from the ad. One was given to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the others are still in her possession. So now the jeans can change hands. The auction of Shields’ items will take place between October 25 and 27.
