“Star Trek” star: Patti Yasutake dies at only 70 years old

She fought for a long time, but now “Star Trek” and “Beef” actress Patti Yasutake has died from the effects of cancer.

In “Star Trek: The Next Generation” she played the nurse Alyssa Ogawa, now the actress Patricia Sue Yasutake (1953-2024), known as Patti Yasutake, has died. On Monday, August 5th, the 70-year-old died in Santa Monica after a long battle with cancer, as reported by, among others.

Her long-time manager Kyle Fritz shares the sad news and offers his condolences: “Patti was my first client when I started over 30 years ago. We enjoyed every day we were able to work together. I will miss her spirit, talent and tenacity, but most of all her friendship.”

Patti Yasutake recently starred in “Beef”

The American, who first appeared in TV and film productions in the 1980s, was in front of the camera just a few years ago – most recently for the Netflix hit “Beef”, alongside Ali Wong and Steven Yeun. In it, Yasutake played the role of Fumi Nakai, the mother of the character George (Joseph Lee).

The Californian-born actress, who studied theater, became known worldwide primarily for her supporting role as Alyssa Ogawa in “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” In addition to her appearances from the fourth season of the series, Yasutake also took on the role in the films “Star Trek: Generations” (1994) and “Star Trek: First Contact” (1996). Her other TV appearances included roles in “The Closer” and in the successful hospital series “Grey’s Anatomy.”

According to US reports, Patti Yasutake leaves behind her siblings Linda Hayashi and Steve Yasutake.
