The book will chronicle her life from her early childhood in an iconic Hollywood family to her own rise on Broadway and in Hollywood.
Liza Minnelli is writing his memoirs. Because, as he put it in an interview with People magazine, previous accounts of his wild life “were not correct.”
Minnelli’s memoirs, which will be published in the fall of 2026will be written in collaboration with the Pulitzer Prize winner Heidi Evans and Josh Getlinand will feature contributions from Minnelli’s longtime friend, Michael Feinstein.
The book will narrate her life from her early childhood in an iconic Hollywood family (she is the daughter of the film director Vincent Minnelli and the star of The Wizard of Oz Judy Garland) to her own rise on Broadway and in Hollywood. The memoir will also chronicle more difficult parts of Minnelli’s life, including her many high-profile relationships and her well-documented struggles with substance abuse.

“Ever since I was old enough to put pen to paper, people asked me to write books about my career, my life, my loves, my family,” Minnelli told People. “‘Absolutely not! Tell it when I’m gone!’ was my philosophy.” Now, however, the icon said she has changed her mind, due to certain “unfortunate events” regarding how she has been portrayed in recent years.
Minnelli even provided examples, mentioning her recent appearance presenting best picture at the Oscars with Lady Gagathe documentary of 2024 Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story and the miniseries of Ryan Murphy Halstoncalling them “a sabotaged Oscar appearance,” “a movie with twisted half-truths,” and “a recent miniseries that just didn’t get it right,” respectively. “All done by people who didn’t know my family and don’t really know me”he added.
“In the end, I was furious!” she continued. “One night, while we were having dinner, I decided that this was my own story… that I was going to share it with you because of all the love you’ve given me.”
