Kate Winslet: Zurich Film Festival honors her for her life’s work

Kate Winslet is coming to Zurich for the film festival in October. The Oscar winner will receive an award for her life’s work.

This autumn, the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) can not only look forward to its 20th anniversary, but also to a real star guest from Hollywood: British Oscar winner Kate Winslet (48) is coming to the Swiss mini-metropolis for the film festival in October. As the organizers have now announced, Winslet will be honored with the “Golden Icon Award”.

“We are delighted to welcome one of the most extraordinary and versatile actresses to this year’s anniversary edition of the Zurich Film Festival,” said Kate Winslet. Kate Winslet will personally accept the Golden Icon Award on October 7 and present her new film “The Photographer” (original English title: “Lee”). Antony Penrose, son of the war photographer Lee Miller (1907-1977), whose life story the film tells, will also be there.

The “Golden Icon Award” is an award for lifetime achievement. The prize was first awarded to Sylvester Stallone (78) in 2008. Other award winners include Morgan Freeman (87), Richard Gere (74), Hugh Jackman (55), Hugh Grant (63), Glenn Close (77), Cate Blanchett (55), Jessica Chastain (47) and many more.

Kate Winslet is a “true icon of cinema”

Now it’s Kate Winslet’s turn. The Brit is described as “one of the most important actresses of our time and the leading actress in some of the most successful films in history”. She is a “true icon of cinema and shines with her versatility in big studio blockbusters as well as in small indie productions”.

Winslet played her first roles as a teenager, and in 1994 she had her first role in a movie in “Heavenly Creatures”. It wasn’t long before she became one of the most famous and successful actresses of our time. In 1996, at the age of 21, Winslet was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for the first time (for “Sense and Sensibility”). Her leading role in “Titanic” was her big breakthrough and a nomination for the Oscar for Best Actress. She was nominated for the Golden Boy a total of seven times, and in 2009 she won the award for Best Actress for “The Reader”. Her biography also includes films such as “Iris”, “The Holiday”, “Labor Day”, “Steve Jobs” and “Avatar: The Way of Water”.
