The stage has been a huge part of Rod Stewart’s (79) life for decades. However, the British singer has now had to cancel a special event at short notice due to an infection he has caught. On social media, he hints at how much the cancellation has affected him.
In 2011 he performed in Las Vegas for the first time with “Rod Stewart: The Hits”. Now, on August 7th, after around 13 years, he was supposed to celebrate the end of his Las Vegas concerts with his 200th appearance in the series in the famous Colosseum at Caesars Palace. But that was not to happen. He deeply regrets missing the celebration.
Rod Stewart has been looking forward to the performance for a long time
Stewart writes that he has caught streptococcal pharyngitis, a bacterial infection of the throat. Most people can deal with it, “I obviously can’t,” Stewart explains the cancellation. The singer says he is “devastated.” “I’ve been looking forward to this concert for so long.” At the same time, he regrets having caused inconvenience to his fans. In the comments, most of them express understanding for the cancellation and wish Stewart a speedy recovery.
According to the Federal Ministry of Health, common symptoms of streptococcal pharyngitis include a sore throat, difficulty swallowing and fever. An infection confirmed by doctors is treated with an antibiotic. It is currently unknown how Stewart’s illness will affect the singer’s other upcoming performances. Several shows are planned in the USA for the coming days.
Stewart’s long-running Vegas appearances have at least not come to an inglorious end. Although it was originally supposed to be the last show, shortly before his cancellation the 79-year-old was able to announce that he would continue next year. “Vegas, I’m having too much fun to let this end here, so we’re coming back for an encore,” he said. Additional shows in this context are planned between March 12 and 22 and May 29 and June 8.
