Taylor Swift usually refrains from making political statements. However, she has now made a recommendation for the election on Instagram – or at least that’s what some Swifties believe.
You have to look closely to see what trick Taylor Swift might have thought up in one of her latest Instagram posts. You have to click seven times to get to Swift’s photo gallery on the platform and a picture of the singer on stage in Poland. She is walking towards the crowd with the guitar on her body and waving.
Taylor Swift: Fans puzzled over alleged Kamala Harris shadow
Her shadow can be seen behind her. But wait a minute. The shadow doesn’t match Swift. The guitar is missing, but that’s not all: the position of her hand is different. In fact, the shadow in the photo doesn’t look like the singer at all. Swift has deactivated comments under the post, but speculation still exists. The outline of the shadow reminds quite a few people of the Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
“Did Taylor Swift just come out with her support for Kamala Harris?!?!” writes one user on X. “I adore Taylor and this picture is perfect. I think she’s going to come out and say she supports Kamala Harris. This is a taster. Let’s get her Swifties to vote blue,” writes another user. Blue is the color of the Democratic Party in the US.
Swift’s voting recommendation would have consequences
If the alleged silhouette of Harris in Swift’s photo was really a planned move, it could have consequences. For some time now, it’s not just Swifties who have wanted the singer to get involved in the US election campaign. Her enormous reach could be particularly helpful to the Democrats.
But there are also dissenting voices. Some users argue that the dark shadow in Swift’s photo is just one of her dancers. Whether the photo is really a subtle voting recommendation to her (mostly female) fans is something only Taylor Swift knows.
