Taylor Swift has cancelled concerts due to the threat of terrorism. In an article, she described such a scenario as her “biggest fear”.
After Taylor Swift (34) canceled her three planned Vienna concerts at the Ernst Happel Stadium due to an impending terrorist attack, an article has now surfaced in which she revealed that exactly such a scenario is her “biggest fear.”
“How are we supposed to protect three million fans for seven months?”
The Grammy award winner’s three Austrian concerts (8, 9, 10 August) as part of “The Eras” tour were unexpectedly cancelled on 7 August after two suspects were arrested who were reportedly planning a terrorist attack on the concerts this weekend.
Swift had published her thoughts on this very fear. “My biggest fear. After the Manchester Arena bombing and the shooting at the Las Vegas concert, I was very scared to go on tour this time because I didn’t know how we were going to protect three million fans for seven months,” she says under point seven.
Attacks in Manchester and Las Vegas
The “Manchester Arena bombing” refers to the terrorist attack shortly after a concert by US singer Ariana Grande (31) in May 2017. 22 people and the suicide bomber were killed in the north-west English city, and hundreds of concert-goers were injured.
In October 2017, a man shot into the celebrating crowd from a hotel during Jason Aldean’s (47) performance at the “Route 91 Harvest Music Festival” in Las Vegas, Nevada. The perpetrator killed 60 people and injured hundreds.
Taylor Swift relied on “army bandage for gunshot or stab wounds”
The worries apparently also affected Taylor Swift’s private life at the time. “My fear of violence also spilled over into my private life. I carry a ‘QuikClot’ army bandage with me, which is designed for gunshot or stab wounds,” she explained in the “Elle” article. The wound dressings contain an active ingredient that promotes blood clotting.
But the US pop star had also acquired the bandage because of another impending danger: “Websites and tabloids have made it their mission to publish every private address I’ve ever had. When you have enough stalkers trying to break into your house, you just prepare yourself for bad things to happen,” is her sober description of a deeply sinister situation.
As Swift further revealed, however, she also fought mentally against the dark thoughts and fears: “Every day I try to remember the good in the world, the love I’ve experienced, and the faith I have in humanity. We must live courageously to feel truly alive, and that means not letting our greatest fears control us,” said Taylor Swift.
Vienna suspect has made “a comprehensive confession”
In the current case, it is now clear that the concerts were rightly cancelled, because a suspect has made a “full confession”, as was announced at an official press conference on Thursday afternoon. The Austrian state security service received corresponding information from a foreign service before the suspects were arrested on Wednesday afternoon.
The US star has not yet commented personally on the events. Swift’s next performance as part of the tour is planned for August 15 at London’s Wembley Stadium.
