Tour: London mayor sticks to Taylor Swift’s concerts

Due to a planned terrorist attack, several Taylor Swift concerts in Austria have been cancelled. The 34-year-old is due to play in London soon. What’s next for the tour?

London Mayor Sadiq Khan is sticking to the planned concerts by superstar Taylor Swift. In Austria, several performances were cancelled because an Islamist had planned an attack in Vienna. Next week, Swift is scheduled to play in the British capital again on her tour.

Sky News asked Khan if the events had changed plans. “We are a capital city, we are an international city, we regularly host major events,” Khan told the TV station. He referred to concerts such as Bruce Springsteen’s at Wembley Stadium or football matches in London. “We look forward to welcoming Taylor Swift back.”

Mayor refers to experience in police work

“We have a lot of experience in providing police support for such events,” said Khan. A lot has been learned after the terrible attack in Manchester. In 2017, an Islamist suicide bomber detonated an explosive device after a concert by singer Ariana Grande, killing 22 people.

Khan stressed that they would work closely with the police to ensure that the US pop stars’ concerts in London could take place safely. The 34-year-old is scheduled to play at Wembley Stadium from August 15 to 20. She had already performed there in June.
