Taylor Swift remains silent on concert cancellations
Swift hasn’t said a word yet. She hasn’t commented on the upcoming concerts in London or on possible plans for potential catch-up concerts in Vienna. Most recently, she posted a series of pictures from her concert in Poland. The comment function under the post is disabled, as is usual with Swift.
“When I asked here what makes Taylor Swift so popular, I was often told: one of the things is the direct, close contact with her fans. Now, for 40 hours, there has been no statement about the cancellation of the Vienna concerts for almost 200,000 fans. Is there an explanation for this?” asks Austrian journalist Armin Wolf on X, formerly Twitter. He is probably not alone with this question. “It is absolutely atypical that Taylor Swift has not yet made a statement about Vienna. So far, she has commented on every incident that (in the margins) affected her concerts. When someone died in Rio, she reacted in the same way as she did to the terrible incident in Great Britain,” said one user.
Swift fan and publicist Natascha Strobl also seems to be puzzled by this. “I find this strange,” Strobl told “T-Online.” Especially because Swift is actually known for her communication with fans. “That means something is going on in the background. They are considering how to proceed now. Which is understandable, because it’s about their safety,” says Strobl.
In fact, you have to remember that there is a large PR and security machine behind Swift. On the one hand, she will have a whole team of communications consultants behind her, who are probably currently working on a statement. On the other hand, the investigations in Austria are still ongoing, and there was another arrest on Friday. It is therefore possible that Swift wants to wait and see how things develop before she speaks.
Statement is likely to come
It would be Swift’s second statement on a shocking event in a very short space of time. At the end of July, a young man attacked several children at a Swift dance class in Southport, England, killing three people. Swift commented on the incident a day later. “The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is still overwhelming me and I am just in complete shock. The loss of life and innocence and the horrific trauma inflicted on everyone present, the families and the first responders,” she wrote on Instagram.
Swift is scheduled to perform in London on August 15. Mayor Sadiq Khan assured fans that they would continue to work closely with the police to ensure safety. In 2019, Swift spoke to Elle magazine about her fear of terrorism, which was exacerbated by the attack on an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester in 2017.
“After the Manchester Arena bombing and the shooting at the Las Vegas concert, I was very scared to go on tour this time because I didn’t know how we were going to protect three million fans for seven months,” Swift told “Elle”. Her fear at the time also spilled over into her private life.
