The Austrian property developer Richard Lugner has died at the age of 91. It came as a surprise to his ex Bahati “Kolibri” Venus.
Even though Richard Lugner (1932-2024) lived to be 91 years old, the death of “Mortar”, as he was often called, came as a surprise to many. The same is true of Bahati Venus, who was once in a relationship with the Austrian building contractor and was called “Hummingbird” by him at the time.
Some may have thought that “it will go on like this forever”
The two had known each other for around eleven years. “But the fact that it’s all happening so quickly was a shock and very surprising for me,” he said. The deceased was “really a jack-of-all-trades.” People associate Lugner with joie de vivre “and also that it will go on like this forever.” But even Richard Lugner is unfortunately not immortal, even if he will always be present in people’s hearts. Knowing that he is no longer here is surreal.
What she particularly liked about him was that he “met everyone as equals”. In his shopping centre “Lugner City” in Vienna, for example, there were people who had started out with fairly simple tasks and now “have a great job because he was simply very open-minded and believed in people who were committed”. It didn’t matter whether he had studied. “He was the exact opposite of aloof”, says Bahati Venus. She was “grateful to him for everything he was, everything I was able to learn from him”. Lugner motivated everyone to “reach for the stars” and not to care “what other people think of someone”.
“Mausi” and “Spatzi” also report
Lugner’s partners were often given animal nicknames. In addition to “Kolibri”, “Mausi” and “Spatzi” also spoke up in the past few hours, saying similar things about Lugner. “Richard was my role model and life partner, I have a lot to thank him for,” said Christina “Mausi” Lugner (59). The two were married from 1991 to 2007. Cathy “Spatzi” Lugner (34), who was married to the property developer between 2014 and 2016, said: “When I received the tragic news of your death this morning, I was paralyzed with shock. Richard, you seemed immortal to me too.” She thanked him “from the bottom of her heart for the great time” at his side.
