Probably no other German-speaking artist has left behind as many popular songs as Udo Jürgens. In September, a song by the famous musician that fans have never heard before will be released.
A previously unreleased song by Udo Jürgens will be released in September. It comes from the musician’s estate, as Sony Music and Udo Jürgens Master AG inform. “Als ich fortging” will be released on September 20th.
Jürgens had recorded the self-composed song as a so-called rough mix; he had played it on the piano and sung it. The drummer and producer Curt Cress, who used to work with Jürgens, rearranged and produced it. It is not clear when the song was written, but it is meant to be reminiscent of his music from the 1980s.
Jürgens, born in 1934 in Klagenfurt, Austria and died in 2014 in Switzerland, is one of the most famous German-speaking songwriters of the 20th century. His biggest hits include “Griechischer Wein”, “Siebzehn Jahr, blondes Haar” and “Ich war noch niemals in New York”.
The musician would have turned 90 on September 30th. To mark the occasion, an album with 90 singles by Jürgens, compiled by his children Jenny and John, will be released on September 27th.
In his career, Jürgens has composed around 1,000 songs, released over 50 albums and sold more than 105 million records.
