The nationally known cabaret artist Richard Rogler (1949-2024) has died. He died on August 11th, as did his family today, August 13th. No cause of death was given. Rogler was 74 years old.
Known from “Windscreen Wipers” and “Midnight Peaks”
The Upper Franconian native became known to German TV audiences through appearances in the cabaret show “Scheibenwischer”. From 1988 to 1991 he also hosted the WDR program “Mitternachtsspitzen”. Rogler was also seen in “Lindenstraße”. Here he played a fraudulent broker. In 2006 he became a permanent member of the “Scheibenwischer” ensemble for almost two years. He received the German Cabaret Prize three times and was awarded the prestigious Grimme Prize in 1989. In 2000 Rogler gave lectures as an honorary professor at the Berlin University of the Arts. This made him the first professor of cabaret in Germany.
The deceased knew like no other how to “weave drama and cabaret, great world theater and cabaret, political topicality and human depths into a completely new form with unbridled energy, acting skills, holy anger and deep love for his characters,” says an obituary by his family.
