The death of cabaret star Richard Rogler is a great loss, says his companion Wilfried Schmickler. Rogler had a lasting influence on many in the scene.
The cabaret artist Wilfried Schmickler has praised his deceased colleague Richard Rogler as his “huge role model”. “It was a kind of awakening for me when I saw him on stage for the first time,” Schmickler told the German Press Agency in Cologne. “To stand on stage with such a mouth, to express one’s opinion so vehemently and pointedly.”
Rogler’s “cheeky humor and his great power to present things” fascinated him, said the 69-year-old. “He had a lasting influence on me and many other cabaret artists.”
According to his family, Rogler died on Sunday at the age of 74. He was considered one of the founding members of the political cabaret scene in Germany and the inventor of the show “Mitternachtsspitzen”, in which Schmickler also appeared regularly.
